What we look at in each Cartier.
With Cartier the first question is whether we are looking at a watch or a piece of jewellery, because they are not valued the same way. Then we go over it in detail, confirm it is genuine and check every mark of wear to give you the market price of that particular piece.
Santos
Cartier created it in 1904 for the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, and it is one of the first men’s wristwatches. On modern pieces, since 2018, we check the tool-free system for swapping the bracelet for the strap, and whether you still have both. On all of them we check the bezel screws and the condition of the bracelet.
Tank
Designed in 1917, the Tank comes in many versions: Louis Cartier, Must, Française, Américaine. Many are quartz, and we buy those too. Reference, metal and size change the price a lot, so we value it against the exact model.
Ballon Bleu
Launched in 2007, it is recognisable by the crown with its blue cabochon sheltered by a metal arch. We check the cabochon is whole and unchipped, and look at the round case, which on steel versions quickly shows everyday scratches.
Panthère
Cartier’s jewellery watch, from 1983, brought back by the brand in 2017. Its bracelet drapes like fabric, and what we check most is that it keeps that suppleness and that the links have no play. On gold pieces, the metal also counts in the valuation.
Steel, gold and jewellery
A steel Cartier is valued as a watch. A gold one, especially with diamonds, is valued as a watch and also for its metal. We check that the diamonds came from the factory: settings added later add no value and can take some away.

Model and reference
Sports models and discontinued Cartier references tend to reach the highest values. Limited editions and special series can multiply the price.
Condition
A watch with no scratches and a correctly running movement is worth more. But we also buy pieces with wear or in need of a service.

How much is my Cartier worth?
It depends on the model, material, year and condition. A steel Santos trades between €5,500 and €9,500, a Tank between €3,000 and €12,000 depending on the version, and gold or vintage pieces often exceed €15,000. Do you buy quartz Cartier or only automatics?
We buy both. Unlike other brands, many iconic Cartier Tank and Panthère references are quartz and hold a solid market: here the design and the material lead, not just the movement type. We also buy the automatic Santos, Ballon Bleu and Pasha models.
Do you buy a Cartier without box or papers?
Yes. The original box and papers add value, but they are not essential. Our specialists verify authenticity directly on the piece: crown cabochon, engravings, dial and serial number.
Is my gold Cartier worth more because of the gold?
It counts, but it is not everything. A gold Cartier is valued for what it is worth as a watch on the pre-owned market, and the metal sets a floor the price will not go below. On pieces in good condition, the value as a watch is usually above the value of the gold.
Do you buy a Cartier with diamonds added later?
Yes, but they are valued differently. Factory diamonds are part of the watch and add value. Settings added outside Cartier add nothing and often take value away, because buyers want the watch as the brand made it. In the valuation we tell you what we see.
Which Cartier watches sell best?
The steel Santos and Tank see the strongest demand, followed by the Ballon Bleu and the Panthère. Gold versions, discontinued editions and vintage Cartier have a collector market that often pays above expectations.
